The dialogue was organized by the Public Policy Group (TWG2) of the Platform of Latin America and the Caribbean for Climate Action on Agriculture (PLACA).
Santiago, March 27, 2025.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) acts as the secretariat of the instrument, providing support for the event.
«La colaboración interinstitucional entre países es fundamental para enfrentar el cambio climático. Estos diálogos nos permiten identificar soluciones prácticas y replicables que fortalezcan una agricultura más sostenible frente a los embates del clima”, dijo María Mercedes Proaño, Oficial de Financiamiento Climático.
During the dialogue, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, which are members of the platform, presented strategies and policies they have implemented in the area of mitigation to promote more sustainable and resilient agriculture in the face of climate change.
Mexico addressed national policies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector, highlighting its commitment to reduce emissions by 8% by 2030, which is equivalent to mitigating -9.7 Mt CO2e.
The Dominican Republic presented experiences in climate action with special emphasis on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) registered in the country, and national policies aligned with international regulatory frameworks.
Both countries agreed on the need to promote greater climate finance, better coordination between institutions, the need to scale up good practices and the importance of these mitigation actions for the reporting of current nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and for the consideration of new, more ambitious ones.
The dialogue is part of a series of meetings promoted by PLACA since 2023, with the aim of generating concrete recommendations for public policies in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In addition, PLACA announced the confirmation of the date of its Annual General Assembly, which will be held on July 23, 24 and 25 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
PLACA, under the leadership of Guatemala (2024-2025) and the co-presidency of Peru, will continue to promote these spaces for dialogue as part of the platform's work plan.
