The integrationof Belize and Honduras reaffirms the dynamism and growth of PLACA as a regional space for coordination, collaboration and capacity building to address climate change in the agricultural sector.
May 13, 2025. The Platform of Latin America and the Caribbean for Climate Action on Agriculture (PLACA) welcomes Belize and Honduras as new member countries, marking a significant step forward in strengthening regional efforts to address the challenges of climate change in the agricultural sector.
With these additions, PLACA now has 18 member countries, while continuing to consolidate its position as the only regional platform in Latin America that fosters a collaborative network of shared knowledge and promotes capacity building to support ministries and secretariats of agriculture in the implementation of their climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.
“Having Belize and Honduras as part of PLACA reflects the growing commitment of the countries of the region to move towards a more sustainable and resilient agriculture that is able to respond and adapt to the new opportunities that arise in the context of a changing climate.” said Abigail Alvarado, PLACA´s Coordinator.
The integration of both will strengthen the processes of technical dialogue, the exchange of experiences and the development of joint initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. It will also continue to promote collaboration between countries for the implementation of mitigation and adaptation measures to support regional and national strategies related to the impacts of climate change and climate variability in the agricultural sector, considering the social, environmental and economic dimensions.
PLACA continues to prove to be a strategic regional mechanism to support the transformation of agrifood systems, promoting actions aligned with the priorities of member countries and articulated with global frameworks such as the Rio Conventions, the Sendai Framework and the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement.
